Original Artwork from Nashville

anderson design group nashville

Since 1993, our family owned business has been producing high-quality illustrated prints, books, and wall decor. We love what we do as visual communicators—and it shows when we illustrate, hand-letter, or design in our favorite 20th-Century travel poster styles. We custom-print each of our posters in-house using the highest-quality inks and papers. Our most popular collection of designs is our National Parks poster collection, the perfect choice for any American adventure. There's something about that romantic, hand-illustrated style that strikes a chord in us, pushing us to explore and practice our craft as graphic artists.

National Park Adventure Guide Book

Averaging 4-10 new designs per week, Team ADG has produced over 3,000 designs, including poster art for each of the National Parks. Aaron was raised in Nashville, where he dedicated his early years to drawing cartoons and making corny jokes. Finding illustration and graphic design the perfect fit for his odd skill set, he attended Watkins College of Art, Design, and Film. In his spare time Aaron enjoys eating strawberry flavored foods, building replicas of TV show & movie props, watching Japanese Anime, and teaching people Photoshop. Now he excels in illustration, hand lettering, logo and package design, and fixing our computers when they're on the fritz.

Derek enjoys creating ideas from a narrator’s point of view, deciding what perspective tells the story most effectively. In his free time Derek enjoys exercising his creative muscle through multiple outlets, such as skateboarding with friends and playing music on his guitar. Derek is a sci-fi nerd at heart and lately has taken to creating fictional movie and video game poster art. Derek’s drive and passion to make poster art is fueled by the inspiring people he works with at ADG. In 2007, the partners decided to pursue different interests, so Joel reorganized the design firm as Anderson Design Group, Inc., narrowing the studio's focus to specialize in illustration and poster design. When Joel and the art team are not doing illustration work for clients, they create new poster art.

Where Does Keanu Reeves Live? The Deets on the Actor's Home in L A.

keanu reeves house

Turns out, she’s a longtime friend and business partner of his named Alexandra Grant. She’s an artist in her own right and is the co-founder of X Artists’ Books, along with Reeves. If you’re a lover of all things relating to Keanu Reeves then we’ve got something in store for you. We’re here to answer your most popular questions surrounding who could quite arguably be considered America’s most lovable actor.

Keanu Reeves and Ana De Armas Star In This Home-Invasion Thriller

He has also taken more roles in TV shows that have done quite well which include 'The Devil’s Advocate (1997)'. Hang onto your hats because this guy has a filmography list longer than my list of exes. But this dude’s been acting since I was a fetus, so it’s safe to say his film history is pretty impressive. There have been rumors that Reeves has a swanky pad on in Honolulu, Hawaii, however, there have been no official reports confirming this. The actor has a history of stalkers creeping into his home so it’s safe to assume that he probably wouldn’t want the entire world knowing his address.

There’s good reason to keep things private

As of the last available estimates, Keanu Reeves’ house in Hollywood Hills is valued at approximately $8.07 million. The value of celebrity homes in this area can fluctuate based on market trends and property enhancements. The bathrooms, echoing the home’s overarching theme, blend modern amenities with sleek design elements. High-end fixtures and spa-like features ensure that each visit is an experience, a brief escape into a world of luxury and relaxation. The living room, a masterpiece of design, invites one to bask in its serene ambiance.

Connection Between Reeves’ Career and his Properties

Aside from Silva, there have been several cases of other trespassers attempting to access Keanu Reeves’ house. In 2019, a woman climbed over the fence of his property and took a nap in his guestroom. In 2014, Keanu Reeveshouse was burglarized, with the individual responsible gaining access by smashing a window. The intruder proceeded to ransack the house, taking personal items and memorabilia worth thousands of dollars before being discovered by a cleaning crew. After taking acting courses in the ’80s, he booked his first TV role in 1984 on the Canadian sitcom Hangin’ In, Whoa Is (Not) Me reports.

The Architecture of Boomer Esiason House: A Look at the Design

The decor exudes sophistication and elegance, reflecting the personal style and taste of the actor. The open plan living area is spacious and bright, with floor to ceiling windows that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Get ready to step inside the luxurious home of one of Hollywood’s most prominent actors, Keanu Reeves. In this article, we provide a virtual tour and exclusive insights into Keanu Reeves’ house.

The house is a beautiful, Spanish-style villa that sits atop a hill, giving Reeves an unobstructed view of Los Angeles. The house features a courtyard in the center with a beautiful fountain as its centerpiece. Unfortunately, he has faced numerous intrusions and safety threats over the years.

It’s locked up pretty tight, though, and Keanu is notoriously hush-hush about his personal life so unfortunately, we get no love with regards to interior photos. The 5,607 square-foot pad is currently estimated to be worth a whopping $8.07 million. Keep in mind that according to real estate estimates, the average home in the area sells for around $1.725 million. Even crazier is the fact that the property appreciated a whopping $3.22 million since he purchased it in 2003 for $4.85 million.

Back in 2014, a fan reportedly broke into the actor’s home at four in the morning and simply sat in one of his chairs in the library. There have been no official reports to confirm this, and it's easy to understand why. Los Angeles is particularly a hotspot for celebrity homes not only because of its scenic beauty but also because of its proximity to Hollywood. It's iconic, posh, and one of the highly-priced neighborhoods in Hollywood hills. The lake house itself was built on Maple Lake, which is located on the Maple Lake Forest Preserve just off of 95th Street in the southwest area of Chicago’s suburbs.

With security concerns in mind, he has implemented a state-of-the-art security system. As Reeves embarks on an exciting new chapter personally and professionally, his real estate portfolio will likely continue expanding. But he will surely maintain the discretion and humility his fans have come to admire. Reeves’ grounded nature proves he’s unlike any other celebrity in Hollywood.

It offers a glimpse into the life of one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors and tantalizes the imagination with its luxurious beauty. “The Lake House” is a 2006 romantic drama starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. The movie takes place largely in a glass house overlooking a lake, which was built especially for the film. While some reports indicate that the house was designed to be dismantled after filming, others suggest that Keanu Reeves purchased the property after the movie wrapped. Keanu Reeves’ New York house is a stunning property known for its sleek and modern design. Located in the heart of the city, the house offers breathtaking views of the skyline and nearby river.

Events at Keanu Reeves’ house are private, and invitations are typically extended only to close friends, family, and industry acquaintances. Yes, Keanu Reeves owns a house in Hawaii, but specific details about the property may not be publicly available. The value of Keanu Reeves’ house is not publicly disclosed, so the exact worth is unknown. The exact address of Keanu Reeves’ house is not publicly disclosed for security and privacy reasons. The master bedroom is a true sanctuary, with a generous king-size bed and a cozy seating area that offers a perfect spot to unwind. The en-suite bathroom is equally impressive, with luxurious marble accents, a deep soaking tub, and a walk-in shower.

Unlike the rumored Malibu estate, Reeves’ ownership of a Beverly Hills mansion is undisputed. He purchased the Mediterranean-style home in the elite Beverly Park enclave in 1999 for $4.5 million. While property records connect him to a discrete Carbon Beach parcel, its precise location and details remain murky.

However, it is confirmed that the Canadian lives in West Hollywood, Calif., and he's spoken openly about not liking the amount of paparazzi outside of his residence. Movies like The Matrix (1999), Constantine (2005), and John Wick (2014) helped catapult Reeves to superstardom. But despite his celebrity, the actor has shown he isn’t entirely fond of the spotlight. He’s a famously low-key person who tends to keep most aspects of his life under wraps, from his relationship status to his living arrangements. As previously mentioned, Keanu Reeves is a very private person, and his house is built to accommodate his privacy. The house is situated in a gated community, accessed by its private driveway.

Reeves only lets specific information about himself be released apparently, which means not sharing many details about his living situation (and for good reason). The backyard is a sight to behold, with a large infinity pool that overlooks the city. The backyard has a modern design that is consistent with the overall look of the house. It also has a lush garden that adds a touch of nature to the otherwise minimalist design.

Located in the prestigious Hollywood Hills neighborhood, Keanu Reeves’ house impresses with its elegant architecture, sleek lines, and understated luxury. The property boasts stunning views overlooking the city, and the lush surroundings offer a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. When it comes to the value and worth of Keanu Reeves’ house, location and property size play a significant role. Reeves owns several properties across the United States, including a house in Hawaii, a New York City apartment, and a lake house outside Los Angeles. The estimated worth of Keanu Reeves’ primary residence in the Hollywood Hills is approximately $6.5 million, according to various real estate market reports. Keanu Reeves’ Hollywood Hills house is a luxurious residence that boasts stunning views of the city thanks to its elevated location.

keanu reeves house

The property features an impressive driveway leading up to the three-story house with panoramic views of Los Angeles. The house is designed for entertaining, with an open floor plan, spacious living room, and dining area. The property also includes a resort-style outdoor living space with a swimming pool and a sleek, modern design. The lake house has become a popular destination for fans of the movie, who flock to see the stunning architecture and idyllic setting. The house itself is a marvel of modern design, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, sleek lines, and breathtaking views of the water.

Cruises from Galveston

what cruise lines depart from galveston

The port is at approx 9 mi (15 km) from the open sea (Gulf of Mexico). The Port Authority company (Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves) is city-owned, self-sustaining and doesn't receive city property taxes. Disney Cruises bring every child’s imagination to life and provide an opportunity for the entire family to reconnect and unplug from the chaos of everyday life. Highlights include kids’ pools, Broadway-caliber musicals, a Marvel Superhero Academy, and a range of eating options.

Cruise Parking Lots

This affected the schedules of 4 liners (Carnival Breeze, Carnival Freedom, Carnival Valor, Liberty of the Seas). The port was shut down to all shipping traffic (cargo and passenger). Freedom and Valor were relocated to New Orleans, Breeze remained docked overnight in Cozumel, Liberty OTS was diverted to Miami. In February 2015, Carnival added the ship Freedom as its 3rd year-round boat (joining the fleetmates Magic and Triumph) which increased CCL's year capacity up to 600,000 passengers. Port Galveston (locode USGLS) is located on mainland Texas' upper coast and on the island's eastern end.

In August 2021, Galveston Wharves signed an MoU with Stabilis Solutions to build and supply LNG bunkering/shore-to-ship fueling facilities in 2021. The deal was signed by Rodger Rees (Galveston Port's Director and CEO) and Jim Reddinger (Stabilis' President and CEO). Galveston is the second (after Corpus Christi) LNG bunkering port served by Stabilis (2013-founded, Houston Texas-based turnkey LNG company, part of LNG Investment Company LLC). Galveston Island is a gem for Texas tourism – and it’s easy to see why.

MSC was allocated a fixed cruise schedule while the Port retains the prerogative to receive at Pier 16 other cruise vessels, contingent upon availability. Terminal 3 has an area dedicated to Suite-booked passengers, accessed via an exclusive entrance. The waiting hall is fitted with comfortable sofas, restrooms, vending machines. RCI Galveston Terminal was initially scheduled for completion/inauguration on September 1, 2022, but was officially opened on November 9th. The new facility is co-owned (50-50) by RCG and Ceres Terminals Inc (provider of stevedore and terminal management services, part of Ceres Terminal Holdings LLC).

From casual buffets to specialty restaurants serving delectable cuisine from around the world, there's something for everyone. For those seeking a taste of both worlds, there are also cruises that visit Central American destinations such as Belize and Honduras. Explore lush rainforests teeming with exotic wildlife or dive into turquoise waters to discover breathtaking coral reefs. The MSC Cruise Terminal complex at Pier 16 comprises a US$100 million terminal facility (docking infrastructure and building/former cargo warehouse), plus a US$42 million parking garage, and an internal roadway. On February 7, 2024, Galveston Wharves and MSC finalized the operating agreement for the new terminal complex. Starting in November 2025, in Galveston MSC inaugurates homeporting operations with the ship MSC Seascape.

Annually, Galveston's 4th cruise terminal is projected to support 925 new jobs and ~US$177 million in local business revenues (passenger fees and sales tax from parking). Galveston cruise port is approx 40 mi / 70 km from Hobby Airport (~60 min drive distance) and approx 70 mi / 110 km from Houston Airport (~90 min drive distance). For fly-cruisers is recommended to use rideshare (larger group travel) services. Lyft is Galveston terminal's exclusive rideshare company (pricing per vehicle /not per person) so Uber is not an option. Taxis are also available from both Houston airports, but the prices are significantly higher (~twice) than the rideshare service. For would-be Galveston cruisers, Carnival Breeze serves as a sort of "test the port" ship.

In 2017 the number grew to 950,000 (economic impact USD 2,3 billion) supporting local jobs. Generated jobs are 20,000 (paying over USD 1,1 billion in total income). Cruise ship vacation-related spending in Texas is accounted for 6,3% of the industry's direct expenditures, and 5,6% of the industry's nationwide overall spending. In 2022, the Port's cruise activities supported ~3500 jobs and generated US$568 million (local business revenue) and US$73,5 million (local purchases by cruise tourists/passengers and crew). Disney Magic sails a mix of four- to six-night voyages from Galveston to Mexico.

CRUISES FROM GALVESTON

The shipping channel is also regularly deepened to maintain a 150-ft (46-m) wide waterfront marine zone that allows access to piers 10 and 41. The port also has facilities to handle cargo ships (bulk freighters and container carriers) and dry dock facilities for marine vessel refurbishments and repairs. The port can handle all types of cargo - containers, dry bulk, liquid bulk, breakbulk, RO-RO (roll-on/roll-off) vessels. There is a terminal switching railroad to facilitate larger cargo movements by rail. Major contributors to the Port's current successful cruise business are Carnival Corporation and RCG-Royal Caribbean Group.

Like all Disney ships, Disney Magic boasts many cabins with split bathrooms — a boon for families. That's not something you'll find on any of the other Galveston-based cruise vessels. I'm a big fan of this new Norwegian vessel's stylish design and upscale feel, and I love its luxurious Haven suite complex. It also offers a solid itinerary out of Galveston that visits several of my favorite ports in the Western Caribbean. Let Princess pick you up from the airport and take you directly to your ship or hotel when you arrive, even if you didn't book your airfare through us.

Outside of The Haven, the entire ship has a more elegant feel than you'll find on other Norwegian ships. It has more of the feel of the ships you find in the fleets of Norwegian's higher-end sister brands, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises — albeit on a bigger scale. Remember, the rates mentioned for Carnival Breeze above are not just for your room but for meals on the ship, too. Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Breeze is the Galveston-based ship to pick when you're looking for a quick and affordable getaway — something that isn't a big commitment and won't break the bank.

This is a third of the cost of similar five-night sailings on Disney Magic. Extend your cruise vacation, and simplify your travel plans with a hotel stay at the beginning or end of your cruise. With a Cruise Plus Hotel Package, a Princess representative meets you at the airport and pier, transporting you to and from your hotel.

With each port offering its own unique experiences, you'll never run out of things to see and do. From Galveston, Princess Cruises offers a range of captivating destinations that are sure to satisfy every wanderlust-filled heart, aboard their Regal Princess ship. Ships depart from the Port of Galveston in Jan, Feb, March and Oct, Nov and Dec 2024. In January 2014, the port signed a 5-year agreement with Royal Caribbean, generating USD 1,86+ million in annual revenues.

However, there are definitely a few worth visiting if you have some spare time. The most popular museum is the Maritime Museum, however, there are plenty of other museums that explore art, history, and Dutch culture. If you’re arriving by Cruise at the Rotterdam Cruise Port, getting to the main part of the city means walking across this beautiful piece of modern design. Admire the iconic bridge, known as the “Swan of Rotterdam,” offering beautiful views of the city’s skyline and the River Maas.

Locals get around Rotterdam using public transport or bicycle; this is an easy city to navigate. Walk along busy canals, take a boat tour, hop on a water taxi, or ride the efficient tram network. One of the best ways to get oriented in this buzzing city is to join a guided cycling tour, which stops at points of interest along the way. If you want to head out of town to Kinderdijk to see the famous windmills, take the scenic waterbus. For Delft, home of the iconic blue-and-white pottery, it’s just a 15-minute train ride.

Central Station

If you would like to learn more about Rotterdam’s maritime history, the Maritime Museum Rotterdam is just a short walk away. The Cruise Terminal served as the arrival and departure point of Holland America Line and is considered part of the city’s social and industrial heritage. The Cruise Terminal is still used by large passenger vessels that visit Rotterdam. The Terminal is now known for its cafe/restaurant located inside with a hall of 3,800 square metres (41,000 sq ft).

I'm a global nomad at heart, and the dedicated editor behind CruiseGear. I want to share everything I've learned and hope to make your next cruise vacation as enjoyable as possible. Gouda is famous for its cheese market, which has been held in the city’s central square for centuries.

The combination of its eye-catching design and culinary offerings makes Markthal a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts and architecture admirers alike. Please don’t forget to come back to whatsinport.com for new and updated port guides.

To learn more about how Gouda cheese is made – and even taste a bit – head to the Gouda Cheese Experience. If you are in the city on a Thursday between April and August, you can visit the cheese market which is held in front of the town hall. Just over half an hour or so away, this small dutch city is packed with charm. With picturesque canals, medieval buildings and narrow alleys, it is a lovely place to have a wander.

Drive straight ahead and you will see the cruise terminal building. Prior to parking your vehicle, please proceed first to the cruise terminal for luggage and guest drop off. After parking the vehicle, it's a short walk back to the cruise terminal.

Markthal

cruise terminal rotterdam

It combines modern facilities, convenient services, and a prime location to ensure that your journey begins or ends in Rotterdam is a memorable one. You can feel that sense of energy and industry as soon as your ship pulls into Rotterdam's vast deep-water harbor, which is almost a city unto itself. Little tugboats steam briskly past heavily laden river barges, while freighters unload cargo crates into stacks that stretch like buildings from the docks toward the sky. The north and south banks of the river, both lined with high-rises, are linked by the dramatic spans of two cable bridges -- including the asymmetrical Erasmus bridge, a city landmark.

Furthermore, the port offers easy access to public transportation, allowing cruise passengers to venture further and explore the wider region of Rotterdam. From the iconic Erasmus Bridge to the impressive Euromast Tower, there is no shortage of sightseeing opportunities in this dynamic city. Cruise ships offer travelers a unique and luxurious way to explore the world’s most stunning destinations, and the city of Rotterdam is no exception. As one of the largest ports in Europe, Rotterdam serves as a bustling hub for cruise ships, welcoming thousands of passengers each year.

Be sure to bring cash, as they don’t accept credit cards (though they do accept Dutch PIN cards). Visit this unique food market and architectural marvel, featuring a vibrant ceiling adorned with colorful artwork. Sadly, you can’t cruise all the time (maybe one day!) so when I’m not at sea I’m usually out and about in London or at a concert, festival or event so you’ll find plenty of posts about those too. I know that cheese is probably the first thing that springs to mind when you think of Gouda but if your ship is docking in Rotterdam, the city it is named after is an easy day trip.

The ship played a significant role in transatlantic travel during the “Golden Age” of ocean liners. Plan on about 45 minutes from the ship terminal to the tower (each way) by foot. If you’re curious to see the interior of a cube house, you can visit the Show Cube, which is a furnished model cube house open to the public. It allows visitors to experience the unconventional design and get a sense of how the space is utilized.

Visitors can learn about Rotterdam’s innovative approach to maritime infrastructure and explore the Maasvlakte on guided tours. Not far from the terminal, you’ll find the iconic Hotel New York, a former Holland Amerika Line headquarters that has been transformed into a hotel and restaurant. This historical landmark offers a glimpse into Rotterdam’s maritime past and serves as a popular spot for dining and socializing, with its outdoor terrace overlooking the bustling harbor. Overall, the Cruise Port of Rotterdam offers a seamless and efficient experience for cruise travelers.

These ships often feature complimentary shore excursions, kayaks and bikes for guest use and onboard scientists and naturalists.

Make the most of your cruise by keeping an eye out for pop-up sales that can save you even more money—you can even use those savings to indulge in a pre- or post-cruise tour.

BRILLIANCE OF THE SEAS

Visit iconic cities like Juneau, Sitka,Ketchikan, and Skagway, and immerse yourself in the splendors oflocal culture. Between ports of call, watch in awe as your shipglides past calving icebergs and marine life, including sea ottersand whales, frolicking in the icy water. We offer an array of Alaska cruisetours and a mix of both iconic ports and seldom-seen gems. Last but definitely not least, Alaskan Dream Cruises is about as Alaska as you can get, as the cruise line is run by the well-known Allen family who run excursions around the state. The fleet of small expedition ships is diverse; the 12-person Kruzof Explorer is a repurposed crab boat!

QUANTUM OF THE SEAS

You’ll need your rest between adventures, which is why Royal Caribbean® overnights in the best accommodations in the heart of every destination. Transportation by deluxe motor coach and in the luxury glass-domed railcars of the Wilderness Express is also included, so you can travel in comfort on your way to each new experience. There's a reason why the best way to cruise Alaska is with Norwegian – we've got something for every type of traveler. The newly revitalized Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Spirit bring that and more with beautifully renovated spaces and staterooms.

If you do your Cruisetour before your sailing, your trip will start in either Anchorage or Fairbanks and after the land portion you will board the ship in Seward for your 7-night sailing. Few people know and love Alaska like those who live there, and the Tour Directors on a Celebrity Alaska Cruisetour are chosen for their deep roots and connections to the local communities. The dedicated Tour Directors on a Celebrity Cruisetour are passionate about sharing their home, and bringing you seamless service, local knowledge, and the best of the interior. We offer a fully comprehensive and unforgettable Denali experience based on our 75-year history in the Great Land. Our Alaska cruisetours feature transportation, accommodations and more to make your wildest Denali dreams come true.

But, with a Celebrity Alaska Cruisetour, you’ll explore that and so much more. Here’s a five day package for you to add on to your Alaska cruise arriving in Seward, Alaska. This tour allows you time to explore the seaport town of Seward before traveling by rail to Denali National Park. Our Alaska cruisetours give more than just a glimpse of the "Great One". Settle in for up to three nights and truly connect to North America’s tallest mountain and ragged ridgelines. HAL offers a "Have It All" fare that gives you a Wi-Fi package; a signature drink package and a certain number of complimentary nights in specialty restaurants and shore excursions, depending on how long your trip is.

Dive into The Points Guy's Alaska cruise guide for all the planning tips you need for your dream cruise up north. Extend your cruise vacation, and simplify your travel plans with a hotel stay at the beginning or end of your cruise. With a Cruise Plus Hotel Package, a Princess representative meets you at the airport and pier, transporting you to and from your hotel. The package includes the cost of your hotel stay, transportation, luggage handling and the services of the representative. Let Princess pick you up from the airport and take you directly to your ship or hotel when you arrive, even if you didn't book your airfare through us.

Adding on a land package (making your getaway a "cruisetour,") is a way to see even more of Alaska. You can go see North America's highest peak, visit charming pioneer towns, hike through Denali National Park, or go rafting. It also gives you an opportunity to check out Alaska's big cities, like Anchorage and Fairbanks. Turning your cruise into a cruisetour really gives you the best of both worlds--land and sea.

Ships in all price ranges sail a variety of itineraries, so don't let budget stop you from visiting. If luxury is what you're after, you can find lines that will go overboard pampering you on your journey north. You may also find one-way repositioning cruises between southern California ports (Los Angeles and San Diego) and Vancouver at the beginning or end of a ship's Alaska cruise season. You'll have four sea days (for example, two days from San Francisco to Juneau) plus a day of scenic cruising at a spot like Tracy Arm (Twin Sawyer Glaciers), Endicott Arm, Hubbard Glacier or Glacier Bay National Park. The waters before you enter the Inside Passage can be calm, rough or anything in between, depending on when you go.

Ideal for cruise passengers arriving into Whittier, Alaska, this five day package travels north to Anchorage, Talkeetna and Denali National Park. For most people, it means that once you get onboard, many of the big decisions are taken care of for you. You don't have to worry about spending extra for drinks, alternative restaurants, Wi-Fi or gratuities. I’m a Florida-based freelance travel and lifestyle journalist who has embarked on more than a dozen cruises, including several to Alaska. As a traveler, I am just as comfortable bicycling through Italian olive groves and SCUBA diving the wall of sharks in French Polynesia as I am sipping bubbles in a Champagne house and dining at Michelin-starred restaurants.

With an expedition heritage that dates back to 1896, it’s no wonder Hurtigruten Expeditions found its way to Alaska. Each of the ships features an observation deck, library, science center, hot tub, pool and Explorer lounge, as well as a bar with floor-to-ceiling windows so you never miss a thing. An expedition team of Alaska experts join each voyage, hosting lectures about the areas the ships visit and guiding passengers on outings like nature walks through rainforests and kayaking trips around the foot of a glacier. Guests learn about the cultural heritage of remote communities and focus binoculars to spot bears, whales, caribou, moose, deer, wolves, birds and more. The MS Roald Amundsen and MS Fridtjof Nansen embark on 14- to 19-day Alaskan voyages between May and September. Upgrade your cruise to a Cruisetour and explore the Last Frontier on land either at the beginning or end of your northern getaway.

Sofia History, Population, Map, & Facts

Bulgarian people are crazy famous with their grill specialty, called ‘’kebapche’’. ‘’Tarator” is a refreshing yogurt-based soup with cucumbers, dill, garlic, and walnuts. It is best when it is cold and it’s perfect for the summer season. Be sure to see the magical open garden and the glasshouse garden, which is full of roses, palms, and other magnificent flowers. In the open garden, there are benches everywhere and you can sit and think surrounded by beautiful creations of nature.

What is the Weather like in Sofia, Bulgaria?

2 days is enough in Sofia if you'd like to experience the city and one day trip. We visited Sofia in the summer, and found it to be quite empty (many people head to the beach). We personally think Sofia is best enjoyed in the spring or fall, when there are more locals around, and the temperatures are still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors. Right around the main square of Sofia you will find a number of great rooftop bars. We suggest going for sunset and enjoy an appetizer and a drink, while admiring the gorgeous views of the city. Make sure to make reservations in advance if you can, as they tend to fill up with both tourists and locals alike.

You can use the chart below to get some idea of how much you need to budget daily, depending on your travel style. Keep in mind these are daily averages — some days you’ll spend more, some days you’ll spend less (you might spend less every day). We just want to give you a general idea of how to make your budget. This is a high-end pedestrian street filled with fashionable boutiques and designer shops, but it’s worth the stroll for the view of snow-capped Vitosha Mountain. Art Nouveau buildings line the street, and there are several small sidewalk cafes where you can grab a coffee and relax. Come here to browse, people-watch, and take in the local pace of life.

When comparing the sizes of Sofia and Belgrade, keep in mind that a larger population does not always imply the destination has more attractions or better activities. So, always research the type of place that you want to visit along with the activities and attractions that interest you. The average daily cost (per person) in Sofia is $64, while the average daily cost in Belgrade is $44.

For Constantine the Great it was 'Sardica mea Roma est' (Serdica is my Rome). Sofia City Province has an area of 1344 km2,[41] while the surrounding and much bigger Sofia Province is 7,059 km2. Sofia's development as a significant settlement owes much to its central position in the Balkans. It is situated in western Bulgaria, at the northern foot of the Vitosha mountain, in the Sofia Valley that is surrounded by the Balkan mountains to the north. The valley has an average altitude of 550 metres (1,800 ft). Sofia is the second highest capital of the European Union (after Madrid) and the third highest capital of Europe (after Andorra la Vella and Madrid).

Reviews On Trip Advisor

By the 19th century the Bulgarian population had two schools and seven churches, contributing to the Bulgarian National Revival. In 1858 Nedelya Petkova created the first Bulgarian school for women in the city. In 1867 was inaugurated the first chitalishte in Sofia – a Bulgarian cultural institution. In 1870 the Bulgarian revolutionary Vasil Levski established a revolutionary committee in the city and in the neighbouring villages. Following his capture in 1873, Vasil Levski was transferred and hanged in Sofia by the Ottomans. Most prominent churches such as Saint Sofia and Saint George were converted into mosques, and a number of new ones were constructed, including Banya Bashi Mosque built by the renowned Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan.

Now You Know Which Are the Best Things to Do in Sofia, Bulgaria

capital cruise

You can find everything you might or might not want to buy in the 350 m / 1,150 ft. long pedestrian section of the street. Gift shops, covered bazaars, fashion boutiques, cheap clothes and shoe stores, supermarkets, drugstores, street food stalls, cafés, beggars, and rich tourists on a shopping spree will surround you. At Zhenski Pazar, you can find an impressive selection of fresh produce, fragrant spices, local delicacies, souvenirs, clothing, hand-made jewelry, and an assortment of household items.

Twin towns – sister cities

The most important piece of advice I can offer is to purchase good travel insurance. Travel insurance will protect you against illness, injury, theft, and cancellations. It’s comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong.

Cars are very affordable, and can easily be rented from the airport. We suggest booking in advance so for the best rates and availability. My friend and I attempted the hike during my first time in Sofia. We actually got a bit lost (not sure how) and ran out of time before making it to the top! That being said, it is definitely on the list for whenever we visit again, and we've heard that the hike is definitely worth the reward at the end. Originally mineral baths from the 20th century, this building is now preserved as a museum where you can go and learn about the history of Sofia and Bulgaria.

The sight of the underground museum will make you forget that you’re indeed in the 21st-century capital city of Bulgaria. That’s my favorite archaeological site in Sofia and I love taking my friends there when they visit my city. Purchase a Capital Cruises Gift Certificate this holiday season. A great choice for the ultimate Austin experience and the friend, family member, neighbor, teacher, or co-worker for whom you can never find the right gift! Gift Certificates can be used for bat cruises, rentals, and catered events.

However, the effort of getting there and visiting the largest and most impressive Bulgarian museum is worth it. History buffs and culture vultures will be happy to know that the museums and galleries in the Bulgarian capital offer a ton of interesting collections to explore. The brick building of the Rotunda was erected in the 4th century. Tours run March - October, departing approximately 30 minutes before sunset. Prices for flights to both Belgrade and Sofia change regularly based on dates and travel demand.

If you’re not coming for winter activities, though, I’d skip a visit during the winter. I personally think the best time to visit is spring (April-May) or fall (September-October). Both seasons have pleasant temperatures, fewer tourist crowds, and lower prices. The foliage around Mount Vitosha is spectacular during the fall, making for some excellent hiking. Temperatures range from 5-21°C (41-70°F) in the spring and 6-17°C (42-62°F) in the fall. Taxi – The normal start rate for a taxi in Sofia is 2 BGN, and then an additional 1-2 BGN per kilometer.

Popular dishes include kebapche (grilled mincemeat), shopska salad (a salad with tomato, cucumber, and cheese; similar to Greek salad), and moussaka. Hostel prices – A bed in a hostel dorm with 4-6 beds costs between BGN per night. For a private room in a hostel, expect to pay between BGN per night. Free Wi-Fi is standard and most hostels also have self-catering facilities. Paintballing has become increasingly popular throughout Sofia. There are over half a dozen different places you can go that offer equipment rentals, paintballs, and both indoor and outdoor gaming areas.

However, travelers have reported visiting the temple as early as 1553. Earthquakes, bombings, and assassinations took place in or around the cathedral, leaving their marks and the blood of hundreds of people on the walls. In 1925, over 150 people were killed in a terrorist bombing.

There’s no better way to immerse yourself in Sofia’s history than by visiting the major temples in the city. When you start exploring, you’ll quickly discover that the city is multi-layered, multi-cultural, multi-ethnical, and multi-religious. If you’re wondering what to do in Sofia, Bulgaria, you’re in the right place. As a Sofia-born avid traveler, I’ve explored every possible activity in the city. Capital Cruises provides a unique glimpse of Lady Bird Lake with a public daytime Sightseeing Tour.

There are also many Orthodox Churches around town, with their beautiful domes and intricate details. Join Celebrity Cruises President Laura Hodges Bethge on June 23 for the ultimate 6-night Caribbean escape aboard Celebrity BeyondSM. Sailing round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, you’ll visit Royal Caribbean’s private island destination Perfect Day at CocoCay, fun-filled Grand Cayman, and tranquil Bimini. You’ll also enjoy exclusive tours, events, and the chance to connect with fellow Captain’s Club members.
